Preparations for "A Journey to Germany"

Dear friends,

I have been planning the Journey to Germany concert series, which as a reminder, will be June 2nd and 4th.

See link for more details:http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=197038787006531.

I have spent much time considering what music I will be sharing with you. This concert will not be like most classical voice recitals. I am going to spice it up...I will sing songs that I truly connect with and that have helped me grow in my life.

There will also be a reception following each concert. See you all very soon, or me practicing my German, sehen Sie später!!

Here are the promotinals flyers for the concerts, email me at larader@stx.rr.com if you would like me to send you a poster to put up somewhere or if you would like to have the file emailed to you to send to your family and friends!

"A Journey to Germany"

Dear family,friends, and colleagues,

I hope this letter finds you well and that you had a blessed Lent and an Easter
filled with the love of family and friends! My graduation from Texas A&M Corpus Christi is approaching, and I am shocked at how fast the time has flown by—it seems like just yesterday
when I began college.

As many of you know, I have been studying voice since my freshman year of high
school. During my senior year of college, I have been involved in many of the
Texas A&M Music Department opera performances—including Kurt Weill’s “Down in
the Valley” and Bizet’s “Carmen”, and also Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” with
Corpus Christi’s very own Sparkling City Light Opera company. Also, I recently
won 1st place at NATS, a vocal competition at the University of Texas at San
Antonio, where I competed with about forty other women in my college vocal
division. For winning this competition, I was named “Outstanding Islander” at
Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. All of this has led me to want to strive to
learn more about vocal performance and technique. My voice teacher, Ms. Flicka
Rahn, calls it the “Performance Bug” :). I wanted to find a summer workshop that
focuses on that kind of career training. Since I am preparing for graduate
school, she felt that a vocal arts workshop would be the perfect way to help me
hit the ground running. And so this July, I will be travelling to Germany for a
vocal intensive workshop, where I will have the chance to study with some of the
top voice, acting, and German coaches in the world. It will be an exciting time
and I want to make it as much a spiritual journey as a training program.

This all began back in February when my voice teacher, Ms. Flicka Rahn, directed
me to send in an application and a video of myself singing to the Music Theater
Bavaria program. At first, I was hesitant because travelling overseas did not
seem feasible to me. After much prayer and consideration, I realized that this
would be an opportunity which could open many doors in my life. So I applied and
received an email saying that I was accepted! The program admitted 24 students
from all over the world and takes place in the small town of Oberaudorf, Germany
in the Bavarian Alps. I cannot describe how excited I was—all I remember
thinking was “Guten tag, Germany!”

I am sharing all of this with you for two reasons: First, and most importantly,
please pray for my time there. The trip will last from July 1-31st. I ask that
you pray that Christ would be my encouragement during my time there.

Secondly, if you would like to make a financial donation, the cost for me to
spend a month in Germany will be approximately $7,000. If, after prayerful
consideration, you do decide to support me financially, there are two ways to do
this. You can either:

1)go online where you may make a donation of $15, $25, $50, $75, $100 or any
other amount at
http://www.musictheaterbavaria.org/support.php

2) mail a check to Music Theater Bavaria. Please write “Lauren
Rader—Scholarship ” in the memo line. The address is: Music Theater Bavaria P.O
Box 533939, Orlando, FL 32853-3939
Your donation will be tax deductible since Music Theater Bavaria is a 501c3
organization.

I would also like to invite you to “A Journey to Germany”, a benefit concert series, to help raise additional funds for the program’s tuition.
The first concert will be held at First United Methodist Church in the Chapel, Thursday,
June 2 at 7pm.
The second concert will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Saturday, June 4 at 7pm.
Thank you for both your prayers and your support. For updates on my preparation
leading up to the trip, please visit this trip blog. I am really looking forward to what
this program has in store for me this coming July and I can’t wait to share all
that I’ve accomplished with you upon my return. God Bless you!

In Him,
Lauren Angela Rader
